I love these flowers. My dad has some in our greenhouse. You know, they've got an interesting history, too. The french (at least, I think it was french) settlers of South America used them to convert the local tribes to Christianity. They said the flowers could be proof of the Bible. Those 11 green sepals stand for the 11 faithful apostles. The 5 stamen stand for the 5 wounds of Jesus Christ. The purple prickles stand for the crown of thorns. The 3 stigma stand for the trinity. I'm pretty sure there's even more symbolism than that but I'm not sure what it is. Nice shot.
